Maintenance Indoor Wicker Furniture
Limited exposure and indoor Wicker furniture maintenance tips.
Wicker furniture can be used inside or outside if it is placed under a protective overhang, such as a patio with an awning. The easiest way to keep wicker furniture clean is to vacuum and then gently spray it with a garden hose and let dry in the sun. The beginning of the summer season is a good time to do this. After cleaning you should not use your furniture for a day or two because when the wicker is wet it could dry in the wrong position if sat on. If you don’t expect to use your furniture during the winter months you can lengthen it’s life by covering it during this period. After, several years you may want to refinish your wicker furniture by applying new paint or varnish. If you do decide to repaint or varnish your furniture be sure to let it dry for a few days before using. Some, people suggest cleaning your wicker furniture with a mild detergent and sponge or soft bristled brush. In our opinion this method is not any more effective, than just vacuuming and washing with a garden hose and could result in damage to the wicker if you are not careful. If you decide to use this option we suggest you first try cleaning a small item. One form of mild detergent is a mixture of 1 tablespoon of mild dish washing liquid per gallon of water. If you are using your wicker furniture indoor, vacuuming about once a month should keep it clean and looking great. Be sure to use a soft brush attachment on you vacuum cleaner. If you need to remove any spills, spot cleaning with a soft cloth or sponge and a mild detergent will do the job. Be careful not to damage the wicker. .Outdoor wicker maintenance tips Our outdoor wicker furniture is constructed with an aluminum or steel frame wrapped with resin/vinyl. You can clean this type of furniture by using a mild detergent and washing with a garden hose. Unlike natural wicker you can do this several time during the season because this type of furniture is made to withstand constant moisture. Rattan Furniture Rattan furniture is more like a wood product than wicker furniture. It is not as intricate as wicker furniture unless it has a wicker weave combined in the design, which is often the case. Generally, you can use a dust cloth and gently remove any dust from the furniture. It is usually protected with a lacquer finish and dirt is easily removed. If you do have a wicker weave in your rattan furniture you can use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to clean between the weave. |
